Alex Durham-Brown

Ready to tackle any challenge!

Hey, I’m Alex. My life is summed up in three words… travel, food, and writing. When I turned 18, I took my first trip to Costa Rica. I realized immediately that staying in one place wasn’t an option for me. Due to my constant need for travel and new experiences, I feel like I’ve lived a hundred lives… ever-changing and learning. In the past 10 years, I’ve moved 16 times. Some say I’m a runner and need to settle, get a steady job, and have a “normal” life. I say they’re bonkers. Life is too short and too precious to settle for anything less than doing what makes one completely happy.

I get high on culture shock; getting off a plane and knowing you’re submerged in the unfamiliar. I giggle at the taste of new cuisine. I’m fascinated by the world and its people. I fall in love with every place I go for completely different reasons. However, it was my trip to Thailand that changed my life forever. I realized how insignificant and small I really am in this world… in a good way. It’s those epiphanies that really give me perspective on what I want my reality to be and what part I want to play in this life.

When I’m homebound, I spend my days long-boarding, surfing, cooking, and reading/researching my next destination. I’ll pretty much try anything once… especially if someone tells me not to do it. I think pushing boundaries is what makes us grow. I think it’s super cool when I surprise myself with what I’m capable of. I hope that by documenting my experiences through my words, I can inspire others to never settle. This is your life. Spend it in faraway places, eating weird things, and meeting interesting people.
